SYMPHONIC BAND

Description: This is our most advanced performing group, and requires a larger commitment to participate.
 Symphonic band travels to Disneyland in the spring, and also performs in other festivals and
competitions including local area parades (see Marching band).  Membership in the Symphonic Band is at the
sole discretion of the music director


Performances: Music classes are performance-oriented, which means that the performance aspect of the grade is weighted heavier than the rest. Because we practice every day with all members of the group, we must perform with all members.  Each student is important to the success of the performance, so absences for situations other than severe illness or death are not tolerated. Concerts are equivalent to exams with the District Festival being the final exam.

Music in the Parks- Disneyland, also in May.  Students will travel by charter bus to Anaheim following a tight schedule with includes performance Saturday morning and an awards ceremony at Disneyland. Details on eligibility and costs will be sent home in the near future.  Chaperone opportunities are very limited for this event.  Students must keep their focus on schedules and their ensemble.  Families should NOT plan to “meet up with” their student at any time during this trip.

This groups will also be performing at CMEA festivals in the spring

Performance Attire: Blue Vest and matching Bow Tie - These are supplied by the music department along with a contract.  Students are responsible for their uniform and will be held accountable for loss or damages incurred when they are turned in at the end of the year.  Replacement costs include $40.00 per vest and $20.00 per tie. 

The student provides:

  • Black Long-Sleeved Men’s styled dress shirt (with black buttons).
  • Black pants. Dicky’s #874 work pant. (Allow for growth spurts!)
  • NO LOW RISE PANTS!
  • Black shoes.
  • Black Socks. BLACK. Not brown, not navy, not gray, not white.
  • Calf length or longer. No ankle or foot socks!

PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE

Description:
 Is made up of select percussionists and performs in local area circuit competition thru the spring season.  We also compete in the central valley area as well as in 2 nationally recognized events in Fresno and Union City. This group, while extra curricular, involves a high level of skill and dedication. Ensemble Fee*: $150.00

Performance Attire:During a performance, students are asked to “dress nicely.”This means no jeans or t-shirts. No mini skirts. It is suggested that students wear white shirts or blouses and black pants or skirts. The Ida Price dress code is always in effect.

MEN'S ENSEMBLE

MEN'S ENSEMBLE Description: This group was brand new to Price in the 2005-2006 season and has been highly successful. Men’s Ensemble is made up of dedicated singers who meet at lunch but still participate with the other choral ensembles. Performances: The first performance for this group was the 2006 Winter Concert. CONCERT BAND

Description: Our mid-level performing group. This group is open to students who have some instrumental experience and are looking to improve their playing skills. Concert band meets 0 period and is a full credit class..

MARCHING BAND

Description: Made up of the Symphonic Band and invited members of the Concert Band. They perform at several varying local area parades and marching band competitions including the Los Gatos and San Jose holiday parades. This group also includes color guard unit and requires Wednesday morning practices and weekend performances.

Marching Attire: Uniforms are supplied by the school for parade season with the exception of shoes and white socks. Uniforms include pants, jacket, ruffled shirtfront, “shako”-style hat with plume and cummerbund. The Ida Price music t-shirt is worn under the jacket. Uniforms are issued at the beginning of the year and returned the first week of June. All uniform pants and jackets must be dry cleaned and returned with receipt attached. ADVANCED CHOIR

Bella Voce Description: Advanced vocal performing group. Emphasis is on performance and continuation of vocal technique. This group travels to Disneyland in the spring and also participates in other festivals and competitions. Membership in the Advanced Choir is at the sole discretion of the music director

Performance Attire: Female Advanced choir uniform consists of a full-length black dress and closed-toed black low heel shoes. Students will be sized for their dress, which will be ordered in the fall. Cost is roughly placed at $60.00. Shoes will be the responsibility of the individual student. Because choir members stand on raisers for lengths of time, low heels or flats must be used.

Male - Advanced Choir members will wear all black with a long black tie.
